Colquitt County Special Olympic Winter Games

MOULTRIE, Ga. – It’s a lively and competitive environment here at Colquitt County High School for the Special Olympics Winter Games, bringing participants of all ages together for sports and skills challenges.

It was a day full of fun as student volunteers and teachers came together to support the event.

Athletes showcased their skills in basketball, swimming, bowling, and more across three different areas.

“Gosh. These guys are the best to coach. And, it’s because, I mean, for this, for these guys this day. And, when we go to state competitions, I mean, it’s like, a high school playoff game for the, for a different sport. They mean a lot to them. And, they get so excited about it that it just helps get us excited about it. And, it’s great to see them be successful when we go,” said Mitchell McKinney, Colquitt County Coach, PE Teacher.

Colquitt county continues to produce talented athletes, with two former packer students competing in skiing at the Special Olympics World Games.

Even today, participants benefit from guidance from coaches and teachers who have experience at the highest levels of competition.

“The advice I have for all athletes this time is just do your best in everything you do. You want to do. Do the best that you can and make sure you can do your job, your activity, to the best of your ability,” said Xzavier Ward, Former UGA Football Offensive Tackle Player, Teacher.

Many students received placement ribbons as well.

But… more importantly everyone involved had a great fun filled day in Colquitt County.

We look forward to updating you on the future success of the two Colquitt County students who will also be competing in the Special Olympics World Games.
