Camilla United Methodist Church’s Giving Tree project
CAMILLA, Ga. – Over in Camilla, the Camilla United Methodist Church is asking for your help to ensure everyone enjoys a joyful Christmas through their annual Giving Tree project.
Anyone can contact the church or attend a service to pick a gift from the giving tree.
Simply choose a gift based on the description of what a family is requesting, then return to the church before December 4th, wrap the gift, and it will be anonymously delivered to the family.
On December 8th, everyone is invited to join the wrapping party, helping to ensure every child has a wonderful Christmas.
“Absolutely. The giving tree is one of the ways that we give back to our community. Every year, our church volunteers, we have a team specifically that does this ministry. They identify a few families that need help over the Christmas season. And, what we do is we come together and we actually have three of these trees. One is in our contemporary worship space across the street. One is here. And, one is at our children’s ministry program, so that our Wednesday night children and their parents can participate as well. First, it’s just a convenient way to be able to help. There’s other ways we could do it. And some churches will distribute a list, or you come by the church office. But, for us, it’s a way to look at this and say, hey, yeah, I can buy something for a boy. I know, I know, Hot Wheels cars. I’ve got a son or grandson and I know how to get Hot Wheels. Cars are over here. We have a girl. She’s two years old. She could use her shoes. And that way the people can just pick up what they want. This one is a boy aged ten, and he likes some Transformers toys. So, the families can just pick up what they want and go and buy these presents. We’ll come back around and together.” Christopher Shoemaker, Pastor, CUMC.
