Dooly Co. Sheriff Craig Peavy re-elected for third term

PINEHURST, Ga. – Dooly county citizens have re-elected Sheriff Craig Peavy, with an impressive 81% of the vote…

One of the largest margins for a sheriff’s race in South Georgia.

With 40 years of dedication to the sheriff’s office, Peavy has certainly earned the trust and support of his community.

“Feels great, going into my 10th year. That’s the role of 3 terms. I actually started 39 years ago when my father was a sheriff. He was elected in 84’ and I started with him that same year in part-time status when I was 18 years old. In January 1986, I went full-time and have been here ever since,” said Sheriff Steven Craig Peavy Sr., Dooly Co. Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Craig Peavy was uniquely prepared to lead Dooly county, carrying on a family legacy.

He follows in the footsteps of his father, who also served as sheriff before him.

“Well, it’s an amazing feeling, and we’re just so blessed for this county and the citizens we have. We’re grateful for the people that live here and we serve and protect them. And, he passed away in 2015, and if I don’t do it right I don’t want to face him one day. That was his thing, he was strong about officer conduct and doing the right thing. We’ll make mistakes, but the intent has to be to do the right thing. But, going into this to be 40 years of law enforcement here that I’ve been a part of and, you know, trying to follow the, can’t fill those shoes, but you follow the footsteps. You know, my father, I know how he expected it to be done. And, he paved the way,” said Sheriff Peavy.

Peavy is now entering his third term as sheriff, marking 10 years in the role.
