FEMA offers assistance for disaster recovery, hurricane relief

VALDOSTA, Ga. – A way to help before, during, or after the hurricane, FEMA can help you with issues involving a natural disaster.

Including a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) based in Valdosta.

You can come and file your issues and get assistance where necessary, whether business, home, or many other instances.

“So, our whole system is based off of helping people before, during and after a disaster. We’re here to help register applicants to get them in the system through an application, answer questions, to get a real look at the damage. We sent an inspector out to assess the damages and then that that said inspection camps sent back into FEMA,” said Phillip Carrington, FEMA DRC Manager.

“And, then, they provide, whether they’re approved or denied and the steps to submit documentation, if that’s what need be, to help get the applicants pushed into getting some grant money. In some instances, we have transitional shelter assistance. That is that is some options on some disasters. And, yes, we also provide rental assistance. If you’re in an apartment and it’s damage or even a house and you can’t find nothing,” said Carrington.

“FEMA will dedicate some funds to you to be able to find an apartment near you or stay in a hotel. So, we’re really, really here to help. We’re here to help the community after they, you know, get through that devastating time. You know, we’re here to help them move forward from that and see what we can do to cover some of their losses,” said Carrington.

“It is a tough journey after a disaster. I can’t even really imagine some of themselves people are going through in this area, but I’m happy to be here and assist them through the application process and get them moving forward and try to help them get help,” said Carrington..

The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is located at 4434 Forrest Street Extension in Valdosta.

The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is December 4, 2024.
