Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful Tire Amnesty Event

ALBANY, Ga. – Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful held its Tire Amnesty Event this past weekend, aimed at enhancing the appearance and health of the Good Life City.

Residents participated by dropping off old tires at the back of the Civic Center parking lot, supporting the city’s efforts to create a cleaner and safer environment.

“What our focus is and what our officer does is educate the citizens of Dougherty county on environmental issues. Our mission and goal is to educate educate citizens and empower them to accept responsibility and accountability for our environment,” said Laverne Levins, KADB Interim Executive Director.

Laverne Levins, Interim Executive Director of Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful, emphasized the environmental importance of proper tire disposal.

“The purpose of this particular event is to promote the proper disposal of tires. When properly placed, they cause problems for environmental health. They’re a breeding ground for mosquitoes, rodents, which causes a problem for us in general in the environment. But, they also take up tons of landfill space and they’re not biodegradable. And, if by chance they’re thrown out and catch fire, they are toxic in the environment,” said Levins.

Residents will have another opportunity to dispose of their old tires at an upcoming collection event.

“We will have another Tire Amnesty Event on November the 16th. Citizens can bring up to five passenger tires. So, this is not for businesses or tire companies. It is specifically for our citizens who may have tires,” said Levins.

Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful promotes a shared responsibility between the organization and the community to maintain the cleanliness and well-being of the area for all residents.

“So, it’s a win win for us and for the citizens of Dougherty county to bring these tires out and properly dispose of these tires so that instead of them being placed or mis properly placed in our environment, they are collected and disposed of properly,” said Levins.
