Dougherty County Emergency Management Announces Evacuation Shelter Opening at Thornton Community Center in Response to Hurricane Milton

ALBANY, Ga. – The Dougherty County Emergency Management Agency, in collaboration with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, the American Red Cross, the Dougherty County Health Department, and the City of Albany Recreation and Parks Department, along with other organizations is opening an evacuation shelter at the Thornton Community Center located at 210 Thornton Drive, Albany, Georgia, 31705.

The shelter opened today, October 8, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. and is intended for individuals who Hurricane Milton may impact, particularly those evacuating from the Tampa area, which is expected to be hardest hit by the storm.

Opening Time: 12:00 p.m. today
