Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church holds annual Family and Friends Day in Tifton

TIFTON, Ga. – A special local church is turning faith into action, offering a range of essential resources to the community.

Over the weekend, Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Tifton hosted its annual Family and Friends Day, aimed at fostering community connections through food and fellowship.

“The church is more than just a church, it is a church family. Sometimes it’s good to go out and visit. And, it’s always good to visit your cousin or your neighbor or your or your auntie or your uncle. But, it’s the time when we come and we celebrate Christ, we worship, we praise, we have a good time, and at the end we have fellowship and we have a lot of food,” said Terrance Eric Singleton Sr., Senior Pastor.

In addition to the event, the church is committed to supporting local residents by providing clothing, food, and other essential resources to help them thrive.

“We live in a time right now, things are just hard. I know the pandemic has then come and gone and we’re still adjusting and the government has been great, giving us a lot of programs. But, we still have a lot of people that are caught in the cracks. There’s still homeless people there. There’s still people that are hungry. We have some programs coming. We are doing some after school programs. We want literacy programs getting started,” said Singleton Sr.

Originally founded with humble beginnings, Greater Mt. Moriah has expanded its outreach, striving to make a lasting impact on the community.

“In 2008, God gave us that mission to go forward. And, from 28 into now, we started from a storefront church downtown and God bless us to purchase these five acres and build our step one, which is just that sanctuary classroom right now. But, in the future I see a gymnasium, I see a fellowship hall, I even see some affordable housing,” said Singleton Sr.

Despite the challenges posed by Hurricane Helene, the church remains undeterred, with plans to introduce even greater initiatives in the near future.

“Yearly, we have my Family and Friends’ Day. Because of the storm that came, it kind of interferes with all the big things we wanted to do this year. We’re going to have another one in between now and next year. We are going to have it out on the lawn here. We are going to have games, family, food, clothes giveaway, and we will even have voter registration. We will do everything we can to get the community involved and work together. Remember it takes a village to raise a family. So, we want to just do our part of the village, Amen. If any other churches would like to partner, you’re more than welcome,” said Singleton Sr.
