Governor Brian Kemp tours damage in hardest hit South Georgia counties
NASHVILLE, Ga. – Hurricane Helene had a huge impact on Nashville, Georgia. Brian Kemp, the Governor of Georgia, wanted to make Nashville one of his stops to give words of encouragement to the public and talk with local first responders.
The Governor’s presence not only provided reassurance, but also highlighted the collective strength of Nashville as it begins to heal and rebuild after the devastation.
“But… our goal is that Director Stallings has been telling people originally to get one lane of traffic so we could get ambulances and fire trucks. Power, bucket trucks and get facilities, hospitals, you know, wastewater, water treatment plant, things like that, so that we can get them back up, run cell phone towers so we can communicate. So, now we’ve moved to have both lanes open, and then we’ll move to after we get that done, moved to helping in the neighborhoods. And, then we’re at about the dairy free on the road shelter where I’m after. Hurricane Michael took two months to get all of that cleared. So, you know, we’re just I know it seems like organized chaos at times, but there is a method to our madness, and it’s all about first responders and life safety and public safety, and medical safety issues,” said Governor Brian Kemp, State of Georgia.
Governor Kemp also visited Douglas and is set to tour additional communities affected by Hurricane Helene throughout the coming week to support ongoing recovery efforts in each community.
