City of Moultrie joins Lowe’s 100 Hometowns

MOULTRIE, GA – Of more than 2,000 submissions received, the City of Moultrie has been selected as one of Lowe’s 100 Hometowns initiative as a part of the store’s centennial celebration, according to a news release.
With a goal of rebuilding areas still suffering from the impact of natural disasters, repairing critical housing, restoration of beloved community centers and revising green spaces, the Hometowns program will complete 100 projects in 37 states.
Projects included are quite diverse, including both rural and suburban communities. All age and people groups are included, with benefits to toddlers, teens, seniors, veterans, small business owners and more.
Locally, a neglected breezeway area is to be reimagined and restored to include an outdoor shaded dining area. The space will also serve as an outdoor venue for area organizations and groups to gather for meetings or events.
“If we receive this grant, we will breathe new life into this space, making it better than it ever was before,” said Amy Johnson, who nominated the breezeway for consideration.
Besides offering meeting and dining areas, the revamped breezeway is anticipated to bring more foot traffic to nearby businesses in hopes of boosting businesses whose profits have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
