City of Nashville makes preparations for Helene

NASHVILLE, Ga. – “So, it looks like this day the worst is going to come at night tomorrow night. With that being said, it’s going to be dark, so we’re not going to know where power lines are. So, you do not have to travel in the roads. And, other people may not be aware of this, too. But, when winds exceed 30 miles an hour, we do not get out. So, that’s the protection of our guys. But, that includes our public works, that it actually includes the emergency response team, unless there’s a life or death threat that they get out. And, that’s a pretty serious threat. Other than that, our crews will not be on the road until winds get under 30 miles an hour,” said Hayden Hancock, City Manager, City of Nashville.

“Shelter in place. We’re opening up some comfort stations here. Those will be places of refuge during the storm. So, one will be here at the Methodist Church in Nashville. We are working on setting up other conversations, essentially shelters across the county. Those will be announced a little bit later today. The city of Nashville is prepared, is handing out sandbags,” said Hancock.

“But, also just your normal necessities, you know, medication. Make sure you have those filled. Make sure you have water. Make sure you have food and non-perishable food. So you know and know so people going by me don’t buy me refrigerators. We’re going to go out. So buy those those canned goods, those things that you can, you know, that will sustain you,” said Hancock.
