Worth Co. Sheriff’s Office to host female firearm familiarization course

September 13, 2024
Matthew Crumley,

SYLVESTER, Ga. – On Saturday, the Worth County Sheriff’s Office is hosting their female firearm familiarization course.

Women can register from 10 am to noon. They must be 18-years-old or older and have their I.D.

They will also be required to sign a waiver before the registration begins.

Upon arrival, there will be a briefing on what is to be expected.

It is also not required to bring a weapon to the registration.

Registration is at the Worth County Sheriff Office, located at 201 North Main Street on the second floor of the courtroom.

“We’ve done one a few years ago with the ladies of the county just to educate women. And, we’re going to do other classes later on with men and maybe sons, teaching them how to handle their hunting rifles and such as that. We don’t just familiarize people with the proper handling and cleaning and firing of weapons makes the home life safer. We teach them what to do and as far as cleaning them, how to farm proper stances and as well as when they’re stolen. I’m at home to keep them away from kids. But, we’re doing this primarily Second Amendment right, but primarily for lady safety. The firing range, we are we’ve been need one for years. We had been going out of county to train. Of course, the law enforcement officers have to fire every year and qualify. We have a SWAT team here also that has to have a place to go and train it. We’ve got a training building out there. So, other classes other than firearms, we can also do that out there to. But, yeah, we’re very proud of the firing range. We had a lot of community help on that. A lot of that stuff was donated out there. We probably we couldn’t have done it without the help of the community, but we got, I think, a very nice firing range out there for us to train on,” said Sheriff Don Whitaker, Worth Co. Sheriff’s Office.
