Inaugural “Hush Puppies & Politics” Regional Fish Fry
ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce welcome residents for a night filled with ‘Hush Puppies & Politics.’
In a mashup of delights and political insight, residents gathered at the Albany chamber’s unique South Georgia fish fry.
“‘Hush puppies & Politics’ is our inaugural event to bring together our regional communities and doing that through fellowship, to bring our elected officials together from throughout the region and our business communities from throughout the region and what is more, south Georgia than a south Georgia fish fry,” said Bárbara Rivera Holmes, President & CEO, Albany Area Chamber of Commerce.
This sizzling event offered a platform for local leaders from across the region to engage with community members, all while including a little southern comfort food.
Bárbara Rivera Holmes, President & CEO, of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the diverse representation of local communities present at the event.
“We’re not just focused on Albany. This is a regional event. ‘Hush Puppies & Politics,’ where we brought together elected officials from Albany and Dougherty county, from Lee county, from Worth county and from Terrell county and the business communities of those counties to be together with our elected officials. So, building relationships within our business communities and within our elected officials so that we can prosper as a region,” she said.
Bárbara Rivera Holmes emphasized the critical role of citizen participation in local and state elections.
“You know, what I hear most from our elected officials is we need to hear from our constituents. We need to hear from our business and we need to hear from our Chamber. Are elected officials make decisions based on the feedback of the people they represent? And, so, it’s so important for us as citizens to share that feedback, the good and the bad. Those relationships will yield better decisions and better results,” she said.
