Innovative Senior Solutions Festival
AMERICUS, Ga. – In other local news, Innovative Senior Solutions held their annual festival Thursday at South Georgia Tech College.
Seniors from across Georgia gathered for a fun-filled day with live entertainment and a talent show.
This festival was part of Phoebe Sumter’s Healthy Sumter initiative, which tackles food insecurity in the region. The initiative also works to eliminate food deserts by setting up community gardens.
So far this year, over 3,145 produce boxes have been distributed.
“This event, We had about 500 seniors, register for this event and we do it annually. And, what we try to do is get everybody together and be able to tell them about the resources that are available for seniors, individual with disabilities. And, it’s a great opportunity for them to meet the resources that are in the community and then also have fun while they’re here. First, I think it’s just coming together and being able to celebrate and enjoy life together. And, I think, second and foremost, is being able to go around to the different vendors and learn about what’s available for you in the community. A lot of times in our rural populations, our seniors, deal with isolation, not able to know just what’s available. And, I think coming to this event, all the vendors are here that are relevant to them, and they get a chance to go around and talk to them and ask questions, and they also get the resources from them and find out, you know, hey, this is for me. This is what’s available for me,” said Lee Wright, Director of Marketing, Innovative Senior Solutions.
