Former Albany city commissioner found dead at Georgia Power dam
ALBANY, Ga. – A weekend long search for a former city commissioner has ended in tragedy as the commissioner’s body was found early Tuesday morning.
Police had been searching for former city commissioner, Kenderson Hill since he went missing on Saturday.
Only for search parties to find Hill as the sun was coming up.
“We got a call about quarter to seven this morning. The deceased’s body was located at the dam, the Dougherty County Police Department, sheriff’s department and the APD and also DNR (GA Department of Natural Resources) came out to try to retrieve them from the lake,” said Coroner Michael Fowler, Dougherty County.
Hill had originally been declared missing with his last known whereabouts being the 1500 block of Georgia Avenue.
Chief Persley said during a news conference Tuesday morning that hill was considered a critical missing person.
“There may be some preexisting medical factors that we looked at. And, so, depending on the circumstances surrounding, the person will be determined,” said Chief Michael Persley, Albany Police Department (APD).
Now they’re looking into the circumstances leading up to Hill’s death…
As well as talking about the severity of the multiple drowning deaths we’ve seen in Albany in 2024.
“I will say that we have experienced drownings in pools, but I would say that drownings in the Flint, along with holding ponds in my thirtieth (year), I think this is the most that we’ve had in a year,” said Chief Persley.
“At least we were able to recover him instead of in weeks sometimes putting families through the stress. But, right now, we thank the public that came out during the weekend and help tried to do the search also,” said Coroner Fowler.
Coroner Fowler says Hill’s body has been taken to the Dougherty County morgue for an autopsy and that the family has been notified.
Hill served the city from 1995 to 2000. He was 64-years-old.
