Wee-Kare Daycare & Preschool Pre-K
ALBANY, Ga. – In a time where affordable child care is more crucial than ever, a special program is making a difference by extending a lifeline to parents.
Wee-Kare Daycare & Preschool Pre-K provides free services, ensuring that parents can focus on work or other responsibilities while knowing their children are in safe, nurturing hands.
“So, here we have one Pre-K classroom which accommodates 20 children, and that’s what the lead teacher and assistant teacher. We are still looking to sell our program for the 2024-25 school year. We have a great team of teachers. My lead teacher has over 30 years of teaching experience plus a degree in special education, and they do a great job with these kids. We’ve been doing Pre-K and serving kids in this area for over 28 years now,” said Shayne Kerfoot, Owner, Director, Wee-Kare Daycare & Preschool Pre-K.
Shayne Kerfoot, owner and director of Wee-Kare Daycare & Preschool, as well as the project and site director for the Georgia Pre-K program housed within the facility, explains how they are able to sustain the services offered to these families.
“So, this is a lottery funded program that is for children who are Georgia residents and turn four by September the first of this year. It’s a Monday through Friday program from 8:30 to 3:00. That is totally free. So, there is no charge for children who come from 8:30 to 3 if they have to come before 8:30 or cannot get picked up at the time of 3:00. They can enroll in our before and after school program, which is a private fee to the daycare. It’s a $65 registration fee. And, $75 a week. It can be in public school systems like we have in Dougherty county and Lee county, or it can be housed in a private center such as Wee-Kare. The great thing about being in a private center is, unlike the school systems, you do not have to be a resident of this county, so you can live anywhere, surrounding counties and still come to the Pre-K program,” said Kerfoot.
Kim McPherson, lead teacher at Wee-Kare Daycare & Preschool, discusses the curriculum and activities designed for the children and encourages parents to become a part of their supportive family.
“We use a curriculum, it’s called Frog Tree, and it is a thematic integrated program that is based on brain based research from a lady named Dr. Bailey and it also incorporates a program called conscious discipline. So, we teach language literacy, math-thinking, science, and social studies. Personal/social development, physical development, health and safety. We use centers to plan in and to teach in. We do small groups and we do large group literacy during the day as well. We just love our children. We enjoy being teachers and working with this age group. They’re just precious. And, we have a sweet, sweet group of little children this year, so we would love to have some more Pre-K families come and be a part of our class,” said Kim McPherson, Lead Teacher, Wee-Kare Daycare & Preschool.
If you’re have any questions about their services, you can reach Wee-Kare at (229) 889-1010. They are located at 103 Spanish Court in Albany.
