Albany Recreation and Parks Department Back to School Barbeque
ALBANY, Ga. – Albany’s summer sizzle isn’t cooling off just yet!
The Albany Recreation & Parks Department fired up the grills for their back-to-school barbecue, aimed at bringing the community together.
“This is one of my centers, the Holley Homes Community Center, and we did a back to school initiative. The first initiative was we donated 25 bikes and scooters, and this is the second part of the initiative. And, we’re doing a huge community barbecue. It’s for the kids and their parents. This is the rec and parks department event, but we had great sponsors with Dobbs Equipment and Hines Memorial Church. So, we want the kids to get off to a good start with this back to school cookout and just coming out, playing games and just being with their mentors,” said Dr. Earnest Brown, ARPD Health & Wellness Manager.
Event sponsor, Dobbs Equipment, discusses their support for this important community initiative.
“On behalf of Dobbs Equipment. We are giving back to the kids and giving back to the community. And, this is one of our main events that we help the community out. And, on behalf of Dobbs, we are glad to be able to assist in this event,” said Frank Pickett, Dobbs Equipment Parks Manager, Albany.
We spoke with an Albany resident who grew up near Holley Homes and strives to be a role model, offering to be a valuable resource of support for the community.
“Growing up in the neighborhood, you know, we was exposed to a lot of bad things, you know. And, I think things like giving back and giving kids hope that its a chance that you can get out and make something out of yourself. I just want to give back and let the kids know there is someone that cares, and somebody that they can always reach out to, someone they can talk to. You know, be someone that will be there for them,” said Corey Randle, Albany resident & community mentor.
