Sumter Co. Kids Bike Fest a success

AMERICUS, Ga. – Located at Sumter County Primary School, the fire department went over multiple bike safety tips like bike safety checks, importance of wearing your helmets, and biking in safe areas.

With the help of River Valley RC, Sumter Cycling and the local Walmart, they provided healthy food options and sports drinks.

There was also plenty of fun too, as the kids were competed in biking obstacle courses, blending a smoothie with a bike, and winning prizes all day!

“Oh, great. It’s a good opportunity for us as first responders in the community, to make a connection with the children, the young people that came out and their parents as well. It helps us promote this aspect of community safety and give them good safety tips that they can learn and live by. This was a first year event we had with the kids, and we had a lot of them come out with their parents and brought their bikes. And, it was a very successful event. We had a lot of participation. It was good to see,” John Carroll, Lieutenant of Volunteers.

The event had over 40 kids show up, a great turn out for a 1st time event.
