Sunbelt Ag Expo 2024 Field Days

MOULTRIE, Ga. – The Sunbelt Ag Expo unveils a new format for its Field Days in Moultrie.

Farmers and agriculture professionals are invited to explore the latest technologies aimed at improving their operations at the Sunbelt Ag Expo. Taking place as a self-guided tour at the Darrell Williams Research Farm, located within the Spence Field Campgrounds in Moultrie, this event offers valuable insights and innovative solutions.

“We invite you to start at the tent behind the shop, right up the road from Dr. Culpepper’s plots. We’ll have hard copy summaries of all of the plots. You can also download those hard copies and videos on sunbeltexpo.com or scan the QR codes that are throughout the area. We invite you to come in. If you come in gate 2 or 4, come to the tent behind the shop, get started and follow the signs one through 35 of the plots,” said Chip Blalock, Executive Director, Sunbelt Ag Expo.

Attendees have the opportunity to explore research plots featuring peanuts, corn, hay, cotton, and more.

The expo, open from 8 am until dark, allows visitors to attend multiple times. Additionally, UGA researchers, extension specialists, and agricultural chemical representatives will conduct numerous trials on all major southern agronomic crops at the Sunbelt farm.

“So, as you’re coming in to stop one, as you look to your left, hopefully you see some really pretty conservation tillage cotton. The project that we’re working on is in its third year. For the last three years we’ve been working with pollen out of Israel. Where we take the pollen, it’s a special pollen and we put it on female palmer amaranth to see if we can reduce the seed viability. So, if you want more details, as always, reach out to your local extension agent and or come to the local winter meetings where we share the results of the lot of research that we generate here at Sunbelt Expo. Again, I cannot thank the expo staff enough in supporting this research. It would not happen without their contribution,” said Stanley Culpepper, UGA Extension, Weed Scientist.

“Today were going to talk about an on farm corn demonstration that we’re doing here at the Sunbelt Ag Expo. This year’s agents across the state are implementing a new program, evaluating corn hybrids across the state. This year we have six locations and the expo is hosting one of those locations where we are evaluating ten hybrids from AgriTech, Cropland, DynaGro, Dekalb and Pioneer with multiple replications and we’re going to take disease ratings, other characteristics such as hide; plant hide, deer hide, and also yield. And we will provide that information at the end of the year for growers to help them with variety selection. And, that’s something that we’re starting this year,” said Jeremy Kichler, UGA County Extension Coordinator.
