2 suspects arrested in Americus shooting investigation

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Americus Police Department, working with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the United States Marshall Service, has arrested two suspects and charged them with the May 14th shooting of Michael Gage Grimes, age 17 of Americus. The shooting occurred in the 500 block of Eastview Drive in Americus on May 14th. Arrested were, Christopher Darrell Lembrick, Jr., age 19, and Lavarous Jermaine Rumph, Jr., age 18, both of Americus. Both suspects are charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In addition to the original charges, both suspects are facing additional charges related to their arrest. Christopher Lembrick Jr: is charged with obstruction of law enforcement, possession of schedule I narcotics with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Lavarous Rumph jr. is charged with obstruction of law enforcement, giving false name to law enforcement, possession of schedule I narcotics with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Both suspects were arrested at a residence on Beale Street in Americus on July 1st.
