City of Albany accepting applications for city manager

ALBANY, Ga. – The city of Albany is now accepting applications for the role of city manager.

Following the resignation of its previous city manager, Steven Carter who has accepted a position in Portsmouth, Virginia, the city of Albany, Georgia is now seeking applications to fill the vacant position.

Underwood and company are assisting with the recruitment process. Applications will be accepted until June 28, 2024, and candidate screening will commence immediately.

Albany is an equal opportunity/equal access employer. The city operates with a total budget of $317 million, which includes $158 million in enterprise funds, and employs 1,171 staff members. The city manager will oversee leadership responsibilities for the general fund and extensive enterprise operations, under the governance of the Albany Utility Board. The salary range for this position is $225,000 to $275,000.

Ideal candidates should possess at least seven years of progressive experience in local government management, including substantial project management experience. Additionally, strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to navigate a political environment, financial management experience skills, and experience working with state and federal regulatory bodies are essential.

Strong interpersonal skills and a dedication to serving the community are also essential qualities for this role. Experience with enterprise funds, particularly in electric, natural gas, telecommunications, airport operations, and public transportation, is preferred.
