1 fatally shot, another injured in DeSoto shooting

DE SOTO, Ga. – The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of shots fired on Main Street, De Soto, around 2:45 am on Saturday morning.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a large group of people gathered on Main Street. They discovered one victim with a gunshot wound who was rushed to the emergency room. Another victim had already arrived at the hospital. The sheriff’s office was notified at 12:30 am that one of the victims was pronounced dead. The names of both victims are being withheld until the families have all been notified.

This incident is currently under active investigation by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at 229-931-4094.
