Atkinson Co. woman charged who struck husband with machete in front of children

PEARSON, Ga. – In Atkinson county, on Monday, Esmeralda Aguirre was arrested and taken into the Atkinson County Jail after law enforcement says she struck her husband with a machete in front of children.

Aguirre was charged with aggravated assault, three counts of first-degree cruelty to children and third-degree cruelty to children.

Authorities say the husband was transported to a hospital and was later released.

No bond has been set.
