Former Sumter Co. Sheriff’s Office Detention Officer arrested
AMERICUS, Ga. – Yakeema Shantrell Mercer, a former Detention Officer at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, was arrested Monday for attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into the jail.
Following a thorough investigation by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Division, Mercer and two others were charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, introducing prohibited items to inmates, and identity fraud.
At the time of the incident, one accomplice, Camry Kemarurius May, was already held at the Sumter County Jail on murder charges and has since been transferred to another facility following these new charges.
The third accomplice, Quintavious Lamontae Williams, remains at large and is currently on probation.
