Colquitt Co. General Primary Election races
MOULTRIE, Ga. – I am reporting live from Colquitt county where today’s General Primary Nonpartisan Election is in full swing. We got the opportunity to speak with Colquitt County Election Supervisor Wes Lewis to discuss details on the election. Here’s what he had to say…
“We are electing a new Clerk of the Superior Court, which is a Constitutional Officer. We have two school board races that are very important. But, we also have a Superior Court Judge here at this part of our Southern Circuit. And, also of course, the Supreme Court of Georgia, and I believe the Court of Appeals. So, these are important seats they affect locally,” said Wesley J. Lewis, Colquitt County Election Supervisor.
Colquitt county, one of the largest counties in south Georgia, operates 19 precincts, each serving between 200 and 2,000 registered voters. Wes Lewis discusses the election results process.
“We’ll make a minimum of three uploads to the Secretary of State website including the memory card that we upload to a central server, that in turn tabulates those precincts as they come from one all the way to 19. It varies. We’ll probably see the first few come around 7:30 pm and they can come up to 8:30 pm or 9:00 pm. Some are faster than others. It just varies based on how far they’re out. Then of course, in Georgia, you have three days of what you call the canvass and certification, where you just make sure that the numbers, the recaps add up. Generally what most counties do tonight, they have kind of an unofficial total. Every county in Georgia does that canvassing and certification process,” said Lewis.
