Arrest made in months-long mail theft case investigation

ALBANY, Ga. – Throughout 2023 and 2024, there have been several cases of mail theft within the City of Albany. The Albany Police Department and the United States Postal Services started an investigation into the thefts. Through extensive investigative efforts, suspects and vehicles were developed for mail thefts, and several search warrants were conducted.

On May 1, 2024, Albany Police, in conjunction with Postal Inspectors, conducted a search warrant at the home of Marqavia Oliver (22), where one of the subjects of the investigation, Trammell Harris (23), was taken into custody. During the search, investigators recovered over 600 checks that had been stolen from the mail collection boxes (Blue Box), along with debit cards and other documents. Oliver’s vehicle was allegedly used to facilitate the mail thefts.

Oliver was charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Crime (F), and Theft by Possession of Stolen Mail (F). Harris was charged with Forgery 3rd Degree (F) and Theft by Possession of Stolen Mail, which there will be a count for each individual check.
