Body of missing Americus teen located in pond near Arch Nelms Road

AMERICUS, Ga. – In a tragic discovery, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has located the body of the missing 13-year-old girl in Americus.

Letia Greene went missing around 3 p.m. on Saturday from her home on Arch Helms Road. As agencies searched, her bicycle was discovered approximately half a mile from her residence around 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

Sunday afternoon, Sheriff Eric D. Bryant and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office sadly announced that Letia was found deceased in a pond. Her body was discovered around 12:15 p.m.

The office is collaborating with the coroner’s office to determine the cause of death. There are no apparent signs of foul play, but the investigation remains active and ongoing.
