Douglas man arrested after stealing and crashing ambulance
DOUGLAS, Ga. – In a shocking turn of events, a psychiatric patient at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas reportedly fled the hospital premises in a stolen ambulance around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday night.
Douglas Police Chief Brannen Pruette said 39-year-old Garrick Jerroid Griffin drove the ambulance across the railroad tracks on Shirley Avenue before crashing on Cherry Street located just south of the tracks.
Law enforcement swiftly arrested him, and he was subsequently taken to the Coffee County Jail.
Griffin is facing charges of driving with a suspended license and distracted driving.
