Skeletal human remains found near an Albany cemetery identified as 46-year-old missing man

ALBANY, Ga. – After weeks of investigation, the Dougherty County Coroner’s Office announced the identity of the skeletal remains that were found behind Crown Hill Cemetery earlier this month.

Coroner Michael Fowler says the remains belonged to 46-year-old Joey Roberts.

Fowler explains that Roberts had last been seen around the cemetery in 2020 as his last known location, shortly after his release from the Lee County Jail.

As the Coroner’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation work to determine the cause of death of Roberts, this identification is a significant step towards providing the family with closure.

Fowler says that foul play isn’t being considered at this time, but it hasn’t been ruled out of the investigation yet.
