Dougherty Co. Sheriff’s Office recaptures escaped inmate

ALBANY, Ga. – The Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office recaptured 37-year-old Carlton Bradford Gillis late Thursday morning.

Gillis was wanted on several charges including kidnapping and robbery by force, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, and suspended license.

He now faces charges of escape, probation violation, and obstruction of law enforcement.

Gillis fled on foot after he overpowered a guard at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital on Saturday morning, Oct. 7.

The following Monday, Oct. 9 Gillis led police on a high-speed chase with his mother and stepfather in the car.

His mother and stepfather were charged with escape, aiding and permitting another to escape lawful custody.

They are being held in the Dougherty County Jail.
