GBI investigates after man dies in officer-involved shooting in Peach County

PEACH Co., Ga. – The GBI is currently investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Peach County.

The incident began when Peach County Sheriff’s deputies attempted a traffic stop on a Honda Accord EX for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Caleb Hooten from Warner Robins, refused to stop, leading to a pursuit.

Hooten stopped at Marvin Garden Apartments in Fort Valley, then fled into the woods, where he displayed a firearm. A deputy fired, hitting Hooten. EMS personnel took Hooten to a local hospital in Macon where he was pronounced dead.

Upon completion of the GBI’s investigation, the findings will be submitted to the Peach County District Attorney’s Office.

This marks the 77th officer-involved shooting investigation in 2023 for the GBI.
