Idalia’s effect on local businesses in Ocilla
OCILLA, Ga. – There are heavy winds as well as rain in the small-town Ocilla, as 2 transformers in the city have gone out. The winds have been so strong that even gas station signs have fallen off of their borders.
There has already been 2-3 inches of rain issuing a minor flood advisory, as there is anticipation for higher amounts.
The storm has also affected local businesses. Banks have closed their main lobbies, pharmacies and grocery stores have adjusted their hours or just closed for the day.
Worker of Piggly Wiggly says they have been quite busy as they are the only grocery store in Ocilla that remains open. Piggly Wiggly is currently running on generators and customers say the store has been very helpful as they prepare for the effects of the storm.
Due to Ocilla being a small town primarily filled with privately owned businesses. Almost all businesses in the area closed due to the storm. With an exception of Piggly Wiggly and a couple of gas stations.
