Man in custody in connection to homicide, drugs & three firearms seized

ALBANY, Ga. – On August 17, 2023, members of the Criminal Investigative Bureau executed a search warrant in the 1600 block of Gardner Drive. The search warrant came after the investigation, for a person of interest, Antwan Jamell Smith (32). Information was received that Smith is involved in the shooting death of Brianna Mitchell (34). On August 3, 2023, Mitchell was shot while standing outside a residence in the 1300 Block of E. Society Avenue, and she later succumbed to her injuries at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Another female, Shenetta Holmes (40), was shot in this incident and survived.

During the search warrant, a total of three firearms and two ounces of marijuana were seized.

Smith was transported to the Dougherty County Jail on active Probation Violation warrants. More charges are pending.

Officers are investigating to see if any seized weapons are linked to other cases within the city. The investigation into this Homicide is ongoing.
