2023 SIAC Media Day wraps up with high expectations from every team

ATLANTA – The 2023 SIAC Media Day took place Wednesday morning at the College Football Hall of Fame, which saw every team in the conference talk about what they look forward to in the upcoming season.

Including Albany State University – a team that is looking to bounce back after missing out on the conference championship for the first time since 2017.

The Golden Rams are coming off a 7-3 season in 2022 – Gabe Giardina’s final season – and will now look to Quinn Gray to lead the way after he was hired back in January.

Despite not making it to the conference championship last year, however, the Golden Rams still had one of their best offensive seasons: most points per game in team history along with the most passing and rushing yards per game since 2016.

But don’t leave out the defense as they have been the backbone of the Golden Rams for the past few years, holding opponents to less than 17 points per game in the last three seasons.

And one team no one will leave out are the 2022 SIAC Champions, Benedict College, which is coming off an 11-1 season last year.

The team had a quick turnaround after a 5-5 season in 2021, which was head coach Chennis Berry’s first year with the team. One season later, he helped the Tigers to their first conference championship in program history and is ready for another one.

One group that is ready to just be back in the championship game, however, is Fort Valley State as the Wildcats came off their first eight-win season since 2012.

It was head coach Shawn Gibbs’ first season with the team, and in Year Two he hopes to lead his group to their first conference title since 2016.

The SIAC Media Day also held its annual “predicted order of finish”, recognition of the “end of the year awards”, and the list of preseason all-conference honors.
