Cordele Police opens applications to hire new officers

To protect and serve... The Police Executive Forum states that sworn staffing has been on the decline since 2020, the Cordele Police Department is looking to add members to its force.

CORDELE, Ga. – The Police Executive Forum states that sworn staffing has been on the decline since 2020, the Cordele Police Department is looking to add members to its force.

“The last three years there’s been a lot of high profile events that have happened involving law enforcement officers,” said Chief Jalon Heard, Cordele Police.

Which has caused…

“A lack of communication between the police and the media as well as the public,” said Chief Heard.

As well as…

“Pay might also be an issue and a reason their might not be as many applicant,” said Chief Heard.

But the Cordele Police Department is looking for…

“Go getters people that are self driven, they are very goal oriented, can follow directions, can determine the difference between right and wrong,” said Chief Heard.

Detective Eddrica Gary tells me that Cordele officers are…

“Not doing it for the pay, it’s a calling that we want to do and we’re just here trying to help people,” said Eddrica Gary, Cordele Detective Officer.

Family is the word that separates the Cordele Police Department from others.

“We’re a family, when I tell you we are a close knit family,” said Eddrica Gary, Cordele Detective Officer.

You can apply to be an officer in Cordele by simply going to the Cordele City Hall and picking up an application.
