The Big Peanut Monument returns to Ashburn
Reconstructed monument returns to I-75 - Ashburn
ASHBURN, Ga. – One monument in Ashburn, Georgia has its residents going…nuts!
“We are so thrilled to get our big peanut back it has been five years in the making,” said Ashley Miller, Ashburn Chamber of Commerce, Executive Director.
The big peanut was destroyed back in 2018 due to Hurricane Michael, but now it’s better than ever.
“It is 16 and half feet long and it is 96 inches around or about eight feet around,” she said.
This monument is homegrown and built, as a Turner county craftsman built the peanut.
“Sersor machine and fabrication down in Rebecca, Georgia made it and their here in Turner county, so we’re proud to have some turner county craftsmanship on display,” she said.
Some people may ask, why a peanut?
“Turner county is the world’s largest producer of peanuts per capita for our land mass. Peanuts pretty much touch everyone here,” she said.
The big peanut in Ashburn, Georgia is more than just a landmark.
“It’s definitely been missed it’s definitely a landmark, I get a lot of stories saying… oh, when I was growing up I always knew we were home because I could see the peanut,” she said.
