Celebrating local healthcare
Farmwork Family Health Program - Moultrie Arts Center
MOULTRIE, Ga. – Over 100 nurses have gathered in Moultrie in support of the Farmworker Family Health Program.
“We bring healthcare directly to where they are, so to their living areas and the farms,” Laura Lane, co-director, Farmwork Family Health Program.
Nurses in this program scan for multiple forms of health problems in migrant workers.
“We do blood-pressure, blood glucose screenings, and diabetes,” said Erin Ferranti, Assistant Professor at Emory University.
This health care program helps both the farmer and the family that lives there.
“We also see children so we’re here during summer migrant school, so during the day we provide well child visits for the children who are enrolled,” said Erin Ferranti, Assistant Professor at Emory University.
Director Lane tells me that this program bridges the gap between migrant workers and health care.
“Each year we since that the community embraces us a little more and more and supports our work and that’s a great feeling,” said Laura Lane, co-director, Farmwork Family Health Program.
Farmers are the ones that produce the foods we love to eat so…….
“If you have food on your table thank a farm worker,” said Laura Lane, co-director, Farmwork Family Health Program.
