VALDOSTA, Ga. – Some people might say that a picture is worth a thousand words but that picture or photo could be worth 700 dollars in Valdosta as the City of Valdosta and the Turner Arts Center are holding a people’s choice photo contest.
“It was just a great idea to invite people in the community to take pictures and capture the beauty in our community,” said Sementha Mathews, Executive Director of Turner Arts Center.
Mathews tells me that you don’t need an expensive camera to win.
“it doesn’t matter what kind of camera you have, it’s not about the actual equipment you’re using. It’s about your eye and what you capture in our community that’s what we’re looking for,” she said.
The unique thing about this contest is that the people of Valdosta are the judges.
“The great thing about this contest are the judges are you and I. We get to go in, it’s a people choice contest. We get to choose what we think screams out community,” she said.
Sementha Mathews also tells me that events like this bring the people of Valdosta closer.
“I just think so many people should participate in this, it’s a great way to get with other people. It doesn’t cost much but its a way to do something along with other people you may or may not know,” she said.
The last day to submit your photos will be May 19th.
