Delta upgrading aircrafts at Southwest Georgia Regional Airport

The new aircrafts will take off on Monday, May 1st, 2023.

ALBANY, Ga. – If you are a frequent flyer out of the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport, your next flight may look and feel a little different, but in the best way.

“So, on May first, the first flight out we will start with our new CRJ-700 or CRJ-900 planes,” said David Hamilton, City of Albany Transportation Director.

The new aircrafts are a major upgrade from the current CRJ-200 plane and will offer passengers a more comfortable flight.

“Those aircrafts are larger than the CRJ-200, they seat more people. So, they’ll be a benefit to the passenger in terms of space, terms of storage bins, leg space, there will be a first-class section that is offered. So those amenities come with the large planes,” Hamilton explained.

The total number of seats for the CRJ-700 will be 69 and 76 total for the CRJ-900 compared to the CRJ-200’s current 50.

Although there will be two less seats in the main cabin, each passenger will have more leg and storage room than before.

Delta will also reduce the number of departures from three to two. One at 7:45 a.m. and one 5:05 p.m., eliminating the midday flight.

“I think the benefit will be more to the passenger. it will make their flight experience a whole lot better even though it is a short flight from here to Atlanta,” said Hamilton.

These new aircraft are a sole courtesy of Delta Airlines and will be of no cost to the City of Albany.
