Dougherty County Commission approves Bookmobile for library system
Bookmobile approved for DOCO library
DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. – Yesterday, the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a Bookmobile for the Dougherty County Library System. The Bookmobile will allow the Library System to participate in outreach opportunities throughout the county, meeting community members where they are.
Considered mobile library branches, with the Bookmobile option, citizens will be able to receive a library card, check out and return library materials, utilize computers, prints documents, and more. This option will be particularly accessible to those citizens who reside farther from the city, without transportation options, to have access to a library in close proximity to where they live.
With a unit to be custom built by a company specializing in designing and building specialty vehicles and supply chain issues which continue to plague vehicle production, it could be up to 18 months before the Bookmobile is delivered for Dougherty County, but the anticipation is exciting for Library officials.
“The Library is excited about the many opportunities we’ll have to serve the citizens of Dougherty County with the Bookmobile,” said Gail Evans, Director for the Dougherty County Library System.
