Albany Police announce arrest in cold case murder
Cold case solved...
ALBANY, Ga. – Albany Police have made an arrest in a 2009 stabbing death case.
CBS 44’s Brian Roche has the details in the more than decade old cold case…
After more than 14 years, the Albany Police Department has made an arrest in the 2009 stabbing death of Yolanda Roundtree, with the case going cold for more than a decade.
The Albany Police announced late last week that the alleged killer, 64 year old Annie Fritts has been arrested and charged with murder.
Roundtree was 46 when she was found dead in November of 2009.
Her daughter, Katie Freeman, and sister, Angelia Woods spoke out Monday…
“We’re sleeping better, we’re relieved,” said Freeman.
“If it weren’t for Detective Bryant, I don’t think this would have come about and we want to tell him thank you for what he’s already done,” said Woods.
That’s Albany Police Homicide Unit Investigator, Terrance Bryant they’re talking about…
And, he says finding Fritts, who was still in Albany was no easy task…
“A lot of things in these cases, you can go in and see that maybe we missed, that we can go back and re-interview something else that we might go back to do to help us better solve this case. And that was a lot of that in this case,” said Det. Terrance Bryant, APD Homicide Unit.
Despite Fritts’ arrest, Albany Police are still investigating another possible suspect…
And, to Roundtree’s family, they want them brought to justice.
“It’s gonna be a process in healing. It’s gonna take time, cause it’s been 13 years, so it’s gonna take time,” said Freeman.
“I’m not ready right now. I’m not healing. We’re not to the point of healing right now cause we still got suspects out in the streets, and we need to get them off the streets,” said Woods.
With Roundtree’s alleged killer now in jail, it’s closure for her family nearly a decade and a half in the making.
Fritts is currently booked in Dougherty County jail.
