Congressman Bishop Hosts Workshop to Raise Awareness About Federal Budget, Discuss Residents' Priorities
THOMASVILLE, GA – Last evening, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) hosted a workshop for residents in Thomasville, Georgia, to learn about the federal budget. The event was moderated by the Concord Coalition and took place on the campus of Southern Regional Technical College. Over 60 people participated in the event which involved presentations about current tax and spending policies as well as workshops in which they could discuss priorities they would like to see reflected in the federal budget.
“It was great talking with Thomasville residents tonight. Throughout the year, while traveling throughout Middle and Southwest Georgia or meeting with constituents in Washington, DC, I hear about what Georgians value and what federal resources they need to improve the quality of life where they live,” said Congressman Bishop. “The federal budget is, fundamentally, a reflection of our nation’s values. There are real consequences for not making sufficient investments in American families who are the workers, business owners, and community leaders that make our country great. There are also real consequences to unsustainable budget deficits. Tonight’s workshop showed that even in a small community, folks have different and diverse sets of priorities. Talking with one another in a constructive, thoughtful manner helps us understand one another and come to a consensus on the issues that matter most to each of us.”
The Concord Coalition is a nationwide, non-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated to educating the public about the causes and consequences of large-and-growing federal budget deficits and national debt, the long-term challenges facing the economy, and how to build a sound fiscal future for all generations.
Earlier in the day, Congressman Bishop joined City of Albany and Dougherty County officials for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Albany Transportation Center – a two-decade project that broke ground in October 2021. It is anticipated that nearly 650,000 travelers will use the safe, accessible, and modernized facilities which will be a transportation hub welcoming visitors and creating new economic opportunities in Southwest Georgia. Federal funding provided nearly 80% of the $11.5 million dollars used to complete the new center.
