3 teens arrested for breaking and entering 14 homes and 20 autos in Americus

AMERICUS, Ga. – On Monday February 10, 2025 at approximately 3:55 A.M. Deputies of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Hidden Lakes Subdivision in reference to a suspicious person. Deputy Laethem arrived in the area and noticed a vehicle at a residence with their doors open.

Deputy Laethem spotted a lone vehicle moving in the neighborhood. Deputy Laethem initiated a traffic stop. During this stop, it was determined by the Deputies that the occupants of the vehicle have been entering autos. One of the occupants in the vehicle matched the description of one of the suspects captured on camera by one of the victims. Fourteen (14) residences and twenty (20) vehicles had been entered upon by the suspects. Items found in the suspects’ vehicle were identified by some victims as being theirs. One firearm was identified as stolen. Another firearm was also seized. Money, drugs, and electronic items were also found.

The suspects, two adults and one juvenile, were detained and interviewed in which one admitted to committing the crimes. Kentrell Turner (18), Jayden Riggins (18), and a 16 year old juvenile, all from Albany, GA were arrested. Turner and McDowell are incarcerated at the Sumter County Jail.

The juvenile was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens to not leave valuables in your vehicle and keep the vehicles locked to discourage unauthorized people from entering them.
