27-year-old Douglas man drowned while on Alapaha River

BERRIEN Co., Ga. – According to Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to boat landing off Highway 135 in reference to a drowning.

The victim was identified as 27-year-old Chris David Garcia of Douglas.

Garcia’s brother told officers that they were walking in the water and he slipped into deeper waters.

Emergency life saving efforts were made by Garcia’s brother and bystanders, but the attempts were unsuccessful.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Coffee County Dive Team, and Berrien County Sheriff’s Office recovered Garcia’s body around 9 p.m.
