2 charged in Cordele Waffle House shooting incident that left 2 injured, Cordele Police investigating

CORDELE, Ga. – ***UPDATE***

Waffle House Shooting Update

This morning, just before lunch one of our officers spotted the shooting suspect from the Waffle House incident on the front porch of a residence in the city. A quick coordinated effort was implemented between our office and the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office which resulted in the successful arrest of twenty-year old Kelwin Jackson of Cordele. Jackson was arrested without incident, and a firearm was recovered.

Jackson has been charged with Aggravated Assault with more charges pending as the investigation progresses.

A second suspect was identified as being twenty-seven-year-old Jermall Burks of Cordele.

Burks was located at a residence in Cordele and was escorted to the Police Department by officers and deputies.

As of this time, Burks has been charged with Battery.

No other information will be released at this time. We again would like to thank our officers and Crisp County Deputies for their diligent work in identifying and locating these individuals. Shooting at Waffle House – Active Investigation

The Cordele Police Department is currently investigating a violent incident that occurred early this morning at the Waffle House in Cordele.

At approximately 3:33 am officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving gunfire.

Upon arrival, officers located two adult male victims. One victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and the second victim had been physically assaulted by several individuals.

Both victims were transported for medical treatment and are currently receiving care. No Waffle House staff members were injured during this incident.

Officers detained one person of interest. After cooperating with officers, that individual was released. At this time, no arrests have been made, and the case remains open.

We would like to extend our appreciation to the responding Cordele Police Department Officers for their swift action in securing the scene and ensuring public safety. We would also like to thank the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office for their valuable assistance, including providing emergency first aid to the gunshot victim.
