2 hospitalized after high speed police chase ends in violent crash in Tifton
TIFTON, Ga. – On Sunday morning, an officer with the Sycamore Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop to pull over a driver for speeding on I-75 South.
The driver refused to stop and a police chase ensued with the assistance of Georgia State Patrol (GSP) troopers.
Officers then lost track of the vehicle until a Tift County deputy spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop the Dodge Challenger as it ran multiple traffic lights as it traveled down U.S. Highway 82.
The Dodge Challenger then violently collided with a Ford F-350 truck at the intersection of Carpenter Road and U.S. Highway 82 near the Lowe’s and Hog-N-Bones.
The impact of the violent crash separated the truck from its bed and debris hit two empty vehicles in the Hog-N-Bones parking lot.
The trooper’s patrol car slid on spilled oil on the roadway and bumped into the Dodge Challenger while coming to a stop.
Officers discovered marijuana, a firearm, and a large amount of cash inside the Dodge Challenger.
Two people were hospitalized for treatment of their injuries.
Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is currently investigating the crash.
