140 lives lost, including first responders, many still missing across six states from Helene

ALBANY, Ga. – We’re also learning more tonight about several first responders who died while rescuing others during Hurricane Helene.

Among them are three firefighters, two law enforcement officials, and a K-9 officer.

In Blackshear, Georgia, Assistant Fire Chief Leon Davis, a veteran with over 30 years of service, lost his life in the line of duty.

In South Carolina, Saluda County Fire Chief Chad Satcher and another firefighter died when a tree fell on their truck while responding to a fire during the hurricane.

In North Carolina, two officers were swept away by floodwaters, including Macon County Courthouse Officer Jim Lau, whose body was later found in a river.

Scotty, a K-9 officer from Erwin, Tennessee, also went missing during the storm… His body was later recovered.

As of today, at least 140 people have died across six states due to Hurricane Helene, with many still missing.
