110th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion of Georgia National Guard prepares for depature
TIFTON, Ga. – In Tifton family and friends got to say goodbye to Georgia’s National Guard 110th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. As the U.S. Army would deploy several of it’s members, but not before they would receive their proper send off…
Today marked the day where the Army National Guard unit in Tifton were sent off for deployment.
Georgia National Guard 110th held a casing of the colors and a departure ceremony at the National Guard Armory on Highway 41.
A group of Legion Riders, Patriot Guard, and Freedom Riders would escort them out of town on motorcycles from Highway 41 to Main Street and continuing on I-75.
We spoke with a member of the U.S. Army about how important it is to support those who are being deployed.
“So our unit is deploying to go and command a command and control battalion. While we are over there today, the ceremony is really what marks our departure, from shift in, where our armory is at, to Poland. So, what we did today is called a color casing ceremony. And, so, we case the organization colors our flag, so to say, and that signifies that we’re deploying forward. And, when we come back in nine months, those colors, those colors, will be encased and the unit will resume our operations as a National Guard. People behind you. So, what we often say is that, well, National Guard guardsmen or Army soldiers sacrifice. Well, they’re gone. The real sacrifice is being made by our families. And, so, having the network here at a sendoff ceremony, really is about, showing us and tying us to the community and showing our families that they have a place in the community, and there’s a much broader support network that is here for them,” said Mitch Leachman, U.S. Army.
