(SYLVESTER, GA) – There’s going to be a new face overseeing the Worth County School System soon as the board of education reached a decision during Monday night’s meeting: Brantley County’s Nehemiah Cummings will take over as superintendent.

“He was in the final round of the decision on when we hired (Dr. Shannon) Norfleet. So he was hired because of his past experiences, and we thought that he would be a great fit for Worth County,” says Worth County Board of Education Chairman, Hubert Souter.

This comes only a few weeks after previous superintendent, Dr Shannon Norfleet announced his resignation from the position citing personal reasons.

Cummings says that he’s looking forward to starting in Worth County.

In a phone interview late Wednesday afternoon, Cummings tells us, “I’m definitely excited for the opportunity. And looking at the school system, I think we’ve got a good group of students and teachers and a supportive community that’s ready to prosper. So I’m excited, and i think it’s a great opportunity…”

w\With the superintendent job in Worth County having two changes in the year, many are excited to see what Cummings brings to the table, and working with the department of public health to continue to mitigate COVID-19 spread is a top priority.

“…Then obviously we’ll continue to deal with challenges that COVID-19 has brought to us…And continue to transition hopefully back towards more in-person and traditional learning as we hope to overcome this,” says Cummings.

Cummings’ will start as superintendent on November 30th.
