Watermelon Queens crowned

CORDELE, Ga. — Watermelon Days are here again and the festival would not be complete without the Watermelon Queens presiding over the festivities.

There were 32 young ladies ages 3-21 who vied for one of six coveted titles at the 31st Annual Watermelon Capital Pageant held Saturday in the Crisp County Middle School auditorium. The event has been sponsored for the last three years by the Cordele Dispatch. Chris Lewis is the publisher for the newspaper and she, along with her staff, coordinated the event.

“It was a success,” she said. “There are things that we notice every year that we can improve on and will continue to do so.”

The 2019-2020 Queens are: Tiny Miss Melon Dani Reese Grube, Little Miss Melon, Ellie Clarie Wilcox, Petite Miss Melon Chloe Elise Cross, Young Miss Mel0n Emmakate Broom, Jr. Miss Melon Denim Marie Lovett and Miss Melon Kallie Leigh Kimbrough.

Lewis said the queens will be very busy throughout the year.

“Anything the chamber sponsored, I am gonna try to have them be a part of it.
