Tifton to begin $12 million housing project
(TIFTON, GA) – An Old Omega Road lot is about to get a major makeover thanks to the City of Tifton.
The city announced late last week their plans for a housing project at this lot.
City Manager, Pete Pyrzenski tells us, “It’s a method where we link up with a private company who uses federal tax credits to provide housing opportunities for your cities.”
Plans for the lot include creating nearly 60 plus homes for low income individuals and families in the Tifton area.
When asked about the necessity for a low income housing project in South Tifton, the City Manager says that this is needed for those who are having trouble.
“I think it’s really needed. We have done other applications for seniors and senior housing only. This is multi-family, so 28 of the units will be offered to individuals who earn 60% of the median income in Tifton,” says Pyrzenski.
While being drastically different from previous housing projects, the city is viewing this one a little differently.
Pyrzenski says, “It’s a housing initiative. So it’s different than what we’re accustomed to. But I think the need is great for singles, couples, low income families for that matter. It’s going to be brand new housing and development.”
The City of Tifton is going to begin preparations in mid-2021.
